Statement from the State Coroner
It is with great pleasure that I begin my tenure today as Victoria's State Coroner.
I feel privileged to take on the leadership of a unique inquisitorial jurisdiction - one which assists families searching for answers and at the same time seeks to reduce preventable deaths in our community.
I am proud to be joining a group of dedicated and committed coroners, registrars and staff who work compassionately in their investigations of reportable deaths in Victoria.
I acknowledge the Police Coronial Support Unit and the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine and the key role they play in coronial processes.
Finally, I acknowledge the legacy of outgoing State Coroner Judge Jennifer Coate, and pay tribute to her strong leadership of the court.
Like her, I strongly believe in the value of coronial findings for improving public health and safety.
